Edgy Uncle Reaper

Edgy Uncle Reaper

Hey Guys and Gals, Its been way to long.  This is the last illustration I made and debuted at Dublin Comic Con 2017.  Its also the second Overwatch illustration for a collection I will be working on.  Mostly for fun, There will definitely be a third one eventually.  Its an Edge Uncle Reaper to match the Daddy 76 illustration.  He baby sitting Baby Gremlin D.va and Kid Sombra.  I thought it be fun to use Reaper for for this because there is a lot of relate Uncle Reaper jokes besides the Daddy 76, Any way lets get down to the Breakdown.

1. Rough


I started with a very Rough Scribble and added a couple extra layers to work out the Details.


2. Line Art

After the Rough was finished I started work on the Line and little changes for comedic affect.

3. Flat Color

Once the line art was done.  I made a later under the line and worked out the silhouette for the characters and clipped the colour to that layer.  I also added a cool textured wall to make the image look a little more gritty.  The way I made the paint faded chipped away on the wall was a random combination of splatter brushes and dry brush lines and dust spots.

4. Final Render.
Once that was all done I started work on the shading and Highlights.  I also added the smokey effect Reaper has during his ultimate and more Lettering, I really love the green of baby D.va's little text saying "PEW PEW PEW PEW".  It really helps it stand out.

It's just a Flesh Wound!


Hey guys and gals.  Here is another illustration from Dublin Comic Con 2017. This is a mash up of BloodBourne and Monty Python. This was by far the most difficulty image of them all and I owe alot of credit to my girl friend Erin, She really helped me come up with ideas and get it the illustration looking right.  I really love Blood Bourne and wanted to do a funny mash up with  Monty Python and something I always found myself saying when I was a pinch away from dieing, I would say ha its just a flesh wound.  It happened one to many times when playing through the game.

1. Rough



The Rough took a very long time.  I was really struggling on whats the best way to make a mash up between Bloodbourne and Monty Python.  I had alot of help from my girlfriend,  I hadn't seen it fully before and only saw clips, so we watched the full Monty Python film together to come up with ideas.  Watching the full movie gave us a much better understanding of the film.  I wanted desperately to use the evil rabbit but also wanted a reference to the Black Knight so I have the default character from Bloodbourne fighting the Rabbit.  The Bloodbourne character looses an arm from the Rabbit and is recovering ready to go again because hunters can regenerate health if the attack quick enough so the title is 'Its just a flecsh wound' which is a quote from the Black Knight.  I also include his helmet in the forground.

2. Line


After working out the rough I started working on the line art.  each of the parts are broken in seperated parts.  The hunter, the rabbit, and the background is broken into multiple parts too.  The background is the cave the rabbit gaurds in there film and the gorund is covered on bones and skulls.  It took a long time to get the skulls finished and tried to make the ground look like there are distant bones.

3. Color


Once the line art was done I moved onto adding the color.  I tried sticking to the base colors and adding little batches for color in the grass and bones.

Lighting/ Background


Once all the color was done I worked on the knight sky and I tinted the rest of the characters and added the subtle lighting and texture like the blood stains and different textures for the clothing.  I also added the life bars as if the rabbit is a boss battle. After that was done I adding extra lighting from the moon and the characters lantern as see in the final version.

Run, Run, Run you clever Smeghead!

 

Hey Guys and Gals.  Here is another Illustration I debuted as Dublin Comic Con 2017. This is Called 'Run, Run, Run you clever Smeghead!'  This is something I've wanted to make for ages.  I love Red dwarf and DR Who.  So I wanted to make a cross over image with the Red Dwarf crew and the Doctor running away from the Vindaloovian.  Its not really a real alien in red dwarf but in this I decided to make it a real species for fun.  I also used Matt Smith version of the doctor becuase he my favorite version and this was made before the announcement of the newest DR.  I think the best thing that happened with this was when me and my girlfirend were promoting the image before the con and my gf linked it to all the actors in the picture!  and Danny John-Jules responded on twitter saying he loved it!  He also wanted the female dr in there lol it was amazing!  He is one of my favorite characters in Red Dwarf.  It was very overwelming in a good way.

Anyway Lets get into the Breakdown!

1. Rough

So for the Rough drawing it took alot of time, I wanted to make it big and exciting and have a little forced perspective.  So I made the character running to wards the camera and made it a one point perspective.  This is probably the fifth version of the rough that I liked the perspective.

2. Line


After finishing the character rough and getting the faces looking right.  I usually break up the the characters into seperate layers on line art.  I showing the under line for all the character.  Its broken up from matt, the red dwarf crew, the Vindaloovian and the background.

3. Flat Color



After all the line art was done I moved onto making the shape layers for the color.  It took a while to set up all the color and choosing the background color.  I tried to make the background a little darker than the main characters so they pop a little more from the background.

4. Final Lighting and shading


After the color was finished I started texturing the characters clothing and adding the lighting and shading.  I wanted to make the coloring the main colors of each of the series main color.  So Red for red darf and a dark blue in the background and then the green light from the Sonic Screwdriver. I was really happy with the way it turned out.

The Crash of Us : Coco Left Behind


Hey Guys and Gals.  I finally have some spare time so I'm gonna be putting up more of the new Illustrations I debuted at Dublin Comic Con 2017.  The Con was fantastic the best part was meeting some fans of my work.  I specifically remember an awesome Cosplayer dressed as classic Harley Quinn comming up with friends and saying hey thats Madmanwithagraphicstablet on tumblr.  Never did I think people would recognise me by my Tumblr name, its the best feeling ever.

Anyways here is an illustration that I've wanted to do since I did the First one.  The Crash of Us : Coco Left behind.  Its another Crash of us illustration, I honestly want to create a series of illustrations with this concept.  I was gonna call it the Crash of Us 2 but its based on the first last of us game.  Where Ellie meets David so I have Coco meeting N Brio and there talking about the gems from Crash 2.  So its a big massive mash up of the 2 franchises.

Now lets get into the Breakdown.

1. Rough
Okay so I started with a light rough sketch and put thought into the overall look and what the illustration should be.  Orginally I was going to use the reference from the Ice lvls in Crash two, so I made the BG Look like they're in an Ice Cave.  but it didn't quite look right.

2. Rough 2


After afew alterations I made a mix of the snowy forest areas in crash 2 where you are chased by the polor bear and the area you meet David in "The Last of Us".  So you in a delapidated building in a snowy forest.  I also want to make the theme of the picture the Gem so I have made a suttle guide for the Gem Silhoutte.

3. Line and Charcater flat color


After that I moved on to doing the line art and color for just the characters in the Illustration.

4. Background and Flat color


After the characters were done I Spent the rest of the time working of the building and the broken roof showing the sky.  The background is broken into 4 different sections, the boxes in the foreground, 2 layers the are the wooden walls of the building and the fallen roof and rubble in the back of the Building.  I also broke it up to different colors to give it more depth and that there is palce between the planks of wood.

5. Lighting and Texture



After that I added the Snow Texture using gouche brushes I bought at christmas, the snow helps the lighting of the image and give makes it look more like the dark gritty look of "The Last of Us" and the Crash Level.  I also you made the sky and put an abondoned version of the cortex building into the background.  The Text is also a joke, and the font I dont think you can make online so I made it, masked and textured parts of it too look as close the Real Last of us text as possible,  I tried my hardest lol.

Adam West Tribute


Hello Guys and Gals.  This my tribute to Adam West who sadly passed away in June.  I Liked Adam as Batman.  He gave the Roll a very distinct feel and personality.  Everyone know Adam West by now as "ADAM WEST".  He has popped up in many different roles over the years for me my favorites are Batman, The Gray Ghost in the batman animated series, Catman, and himself in family guy.  I am sorry I put off uploading it but I have been busy and wanted to show a little respect to his memory.  I decided to do the scene where he's carrying the bomb in a more comic style.  Now lets get to the break down.

1. ROUGH

For a while now I've been sketching with a pen in a little A5 sketch book to practice instead of computer all the time so I did the original sketch on paper and put it into photoshop.  After that a added more smoke and anything out side the square to make it more dynamic.

2. LINE WORK


After I was happy with the rough sketch I mover onto doing the line work and putting everything on a seperate layer to get it right.  In the pic Im gonna show the under side so it looks more like a work in progress.

3.COLOR


After that I moved onto creating the shape layers.  Adam, the smoke behind and the smoke in the foreground are all seperate.  once I have all the shapes done I used extra layers and clip them to the individual shapes and started adding color.  Each color has its own seperate layer  so if I need to change anything I can go back.

4. FINAL RENDER.


Once the base color was done I added shading and afew highlights to make the blue on batman pop a little more.  I also made a circle gradient of dots to give it more or a comic book look and more depth to the image. So Adam looks like hes running towards you.

They call me Daddy


Hey Guys and Gals.
Hope you all getting on well.  Eirtakon is over and I am still recovering lol It was a very long week but I was so happy to see so many of you and I selling a fair few posters.  I will be looking into being at more cons so if there are any in your area let me know.  Anyway this is one of my favorite illustrations I did for the con.  Its "Daddy 76"!! Now I have played alot of overwatch, almost religiously since it came out.  I love the characters and there personalities, the jokes and memes and the beautiful fan art I see online.  So I chose to do the Daddy 76, if you listen to soldier 76 audio clips he's a really dad or grumpy old man.  I wanted to illustrate the idea that he is the a stone cold serious character but also the best dad ever so under his Jacket I gave him a number one dad shirt and his kids all over him, including a baby gremlin D.VA and a nuaghty Junkrat toldler.  I think is cute and hilarious but anyway  here is a quick break down of how I made the illustration.

1.  Rough

 So I started off by doing alot of different roughs of the character but the one here I though turned out the best.  Some of the other angles I had didn't display the shirt big enough so I stuck with this one.  I used a default brush and just tried to may a rough guide and ad as much detail as I could for later on.
2. Line Art

After the rough I worked on the line art and added all the tiny details.  I also did the line with for the baby D.VA and kid Junkrat later on but added them in here si you can see what it looks like.  Hardest Part was making baby diva look like herself , cute and not too cartoony.

3.  Color Art

After finishing the line work I made a base shape for the three characters.  After making the shapes, I clipped layers to add all the color, each color has a different layer to keep it clean.  It really started looking great and after this i started added shading and highlights to create more volume.

4.  Shading and Highlights

Once I started adding the shading it really started to pop.  I kepts it very simply with a white highlight to the left and a pink tint to the right.  Also the shading was a dark blue color.  I wanted to make it change.  I really think it turned out great and will hopefully do more like this.  Just for fun.

Skater moon


Hey guys and gal's, here is my latest illustration.  Its really a submission for Eirtakon 2016 and hopefully we can get in. Its skater moon!! Its a parody/ pop culture image of the sailor moon characters geared up for a roller derby match.  I have some friends who are on some roller derby teams and it looks really cool.  I wanted to do a few anime parodies with a cool twist on it. Sailor moon popped up in my head and I thought it would be pretty funny to see the Sailor Scouts in a roller derby, looking bad ass and tough.

anyway lets get down to the break down.

1. Rough



For the first part I worked on Sailor Moon, Mars and Mercury, I was originally only going to do 3 of them but thought it would look more interesting with a character line up.  I used a default brush in Photoshop and kept it rough and scribbly for the most part.

2. Vector Shapes


After the characters were all done a started making vector to build up the characters on by one.  As you can see here in the picture above I kept the characters as flat a possible.

3. full character shapes


I made each for the character full and each has a bit of a variation so you can tell them apart.  I left the background and the facial details till very last to I didn't make any mistakes on the characters.

4. final version


After finishing all the characters I worked on all the characters faces and line work.  Once the Line work was all done I made a nice pop looking logo and added a simple looker room background.  Here are some close up crops of the full resolution version.  The version I do put online is only 100.  the normal resolution is 300.

Bebop & RockSteady

Hey Guys and Gals!  Today I present you with my illustration of Bebop and RockSteady! This also the second submission for eirtakon.  I love the older Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and was a bit confused when Bebop and RockSteady were not put in the second film.  I am really happy to see that there apart of the new tmnt 2 film.  the first one was garbage but I'm praying the second one will be a good watch and if its great.  Lets just pretend that first one didn't happen.  The Next thing I'll work on will be anime themed so watch out for that ;) Now back to the break down.


1. Rough


I started to with a rough the was the last rough I worked on for like 5.  I was trying to get Rocksteady's pose to look like the actor WWE Sheamus, he poses with his arms spread like a cross. But I couldn't get it to look nice.  But its fine, for Bebop I posed him as if he's  spiking up his fabulous Mohawk.

2. Flat color

After the rough was done I build up all the shapes for the colors so a had a bulk of the color done.

3. Background sign

After finishing the colour I worked on extra detail and added Line on the inside of the characters.  Also worked on a logo behind the characters.  I simply a cool neon coloured sign of Bebop and Rocksteady's name also put the foot clan symbol in between the names.  I also added dirt because there both bad ass and I was close to making Rocksteady's name made out of stone, but it blended to well with the Characters Skin.  I really wanted to purple and yellow to really stand out as much as possible.

4. Final Render

Finally I added some extra lighting to both the characters from the light of the Sign.  I also added more shine to bebops hair and glasses and sparkles to the mohawk.  Also added the spikes and the line art with done mostly freehand, hours and hours waisted getting it just rite, but I'm supper happy how well it turned out.  I might make another with the turtles themselves later on.

We Love SpringTrap


Hey Guys and Gals today I present you "We Love SpringTrap" its is My fanart illustraton of SpringTrap from Five Nights at Freddy's 3 game.  At Eirtakon I was asked for afew more of the other characters that people Love and SpringTrap was the most asked out of all of them lol so I spent the last 3 months working n my spare time of this one.  This was by far the hardest character to get looking right.  I spent a lot of time getting a Nice mix between stills and the jumscares them selves.
here is a small breakdown of the illustration.

1.  Rough
I started with a really scribbley version of the character,  In SpringTraps back story the audio says he was found in one of the old abandoned restaurants behind a brick wall.  So I wanted to do the pick like they were breaking down the wall and find SpringTrap learing out of the broken wall. covered in little easter eggs from the game.

2.

 After finishing the rough I wourked on making a full version of SpringTraps body for possibly another animation maybe. and also maybe an alternative version of of the design where you can see the full body.  Each body part is separated into different folders and in each folders there broken up into all the different shapes.  I made the characters folder a little see through so u can see the layers underneath.

3. Final Render.

After I had finished the character I worked on masking springtrap behind the brick wall and I added a Banner and the Paper Plate in front as the easter egg, Im not too sure but I think that that this paper plate kinda represents Springtrap so it would make sense it would be close to where springtrap is hiding.  I also added a greenish tint shading to the character and a strong yellow light to make him look more golden.  I wanted the colour palette to  be mostly Yellow, green, Red and Purple.  The purple represents the purple guy how is possibly the killer in the game and the red is danger and also just flesh to show there is more to SpringTrap the you see.
